Batteries for Cordless Power Tools (CPT)

Cordless power tools are an important and growing part of the European power tool business. Product development is fast moving. The industry is concerned about the commercial risks of being forced to use one technology and sought to maintain the exemption for NiCd batteries as long as possible. Portable batteries and accumulators intended for use in cordless power tools containing more than 0,002% of cadmium by weight may not be placed on the market after December 31st 2016.
Collection of end of life power tools and batteries is an important activity to protect the environment. Legislation for this is already in place and the industry is playing an active part in achieving the required collection rates. Recycling power tools and batteries contributes to a sustainable economy. The industry designs products that can be efficiently recycled.
